About The Virtual Library Card Program
The Virtual Library Card is not a physical card, although we encourage everyone to get a physical library card from their local library. The Virtual Library Card is an account created in the libraries’ automation system that allows the student access to their home libraries’ digital resources; using a code with their student ID and a PIN. We’d love to have you visit your local public library, but there is no need to visit for you to access these resources. They are available virtually to all of the participating schools’/districts’ students.
The Suburban Library Cooperative and its member libraries all have to follow the Michigan Library Privacy Act. No information is ever shared regarding usage of the library’s resources or student access credentials.
As of 2021, the program now covers over 80% of the Suburban Library Cooperative’s service area. Our goal is to have all schools/districts participate.
How does an individual sign up or a district participate?
If you represent a school/district that is currently not participating in the program, you can contact your local public library (link to list of public library members) or contact the Suburban Library Cooperative (link to our contact info) to get the process started.
If you are a student or parent that attends school in a school/district that is currently not participating in the program, please contact your school/district and provide them with the information on our website so that they can contact us about participation.
